Setting Vibration Scores for Equipment Types

How to add and update the vibration score for each type of tool

Chime uses a vibration score for each equipment type to work out how many HAVS points an operative builds up. You add these scores yourself, from the tool's label, manufacturer's information or HSE guidance. Every change is kept in a score history, so you always have a record of what each score was, who set it and when.

Adding a new type with vibration scores

  1. Select the Health & Safety tile

  2. Select HAVS tab

  3. Select Vibration Magnitude Tab

  4. If the equipment isn't already set up, select 'add type'

  5. Fill in all the relevant information

When finished, select the 'Add Type' button

Adding vibration scores to existing type

  1. Find the equipment type in the list on the left.

    • Type in the search box to filter by category or type name.

    • Select a category to see the types in it.

  2. Select the equipment type.

    • Its current score and score history appear on the right.

  3. Enter the vibration score in m/s².

    • The guidance below updates to show the points per hour and roughly how long the tool can be used before reaching the 100-point action value.

  4. Choose where the score comes from:

    • HSE indicative value

    • Manufacturer-declared

    • Measured on-tool

  5. Select Save.

  6. Check the details in the confirmation, then confirm.

    • It shows the equipment type, the old score, the new score and the source.

The new score is saved. It's used for all tool use logged from now on.

Use Case

Health and safety / plant managers who manage equipment information, typically when HAVS is first set up and whenever new tools arrive.

💡 Tips

  • Scores that were already stored against equipment types before HAVS was set up are kept. Their source, who set them and when show as Not recorded.

  • Changing a score doesn't change logs that have already been submitted. They keep the score that was in place when they were submitted.

  • Tools without a score can still be logged, but they add no points. Set scores for every tool your operatives use.
