Setting up a Geofence

What is a site geofence and how to set it up

Updated over 2 weeks ago

A site geofence is a digital boundary drawn around your site or project that defines the zone where workers are expected to sign in and out each day. The size of the geofence can be increased or decreased depending on your requirements, giving you flexibility across large or small sites. This helps ensure accurate sign-in data and flags immediately if someone signs in outside of the designated area.

Example scenario:

If John Smith signs in outside the geofence, the “Who Is On Site” record will display a red geofence icon to indicate non-compliance. If he signs in inside the geofence, his record will show a green geofence icon, confirming his sign-in was valid.

Setting up your geofence

  1. On the left-hand side, select the Chime Time tile.

  2. Select the Sites tab.

  3. Double-click on the site or project where you want to set up the geofence.

  4. In the left-hand tree menu, select Site Location.

    • This will open the Site Location dashboard.

  5. Check that your site has an address set up:

    • You will see the address in the “Address Book” rectangle.

    • To change it, click the Change Address icon.

  6. Locate the Geofence box below the address.

    • Use the arrow controls to increase or decrease the geofence size.

    • The changes will be displayed on the map on the right-hand side.

  7. Once happy with the size, click Confirm Change.

  8. To adjust the exact position of the site pin:

    • In the coordinates box, select Manually Position.

    • Drag and drop the pin to the precise location.

    • Select Confirm Position when finished.

Your site address, pin location, and geofence are now fully set up.

Use Case

Geofences are typically set up by:

  • Project admins

  • Super-users

  • Contracts managers

This is usually done when a new site is first created or when the boundaries need to be updated.

💡 Tips

  • Keep geofences tight around your site to avoid workers signing in from off-site areas.

  • If your site has multiple access points, make the geofence wide enough to cover all entrances.

  • Use the colour-coded geofence icons in “Who Is On Site” for quick compliance checks.
